Auricular Acupuncture (AcuDetox)

What is AcuDetox?

AcuDetox is a special form of acupuncture that targets 5 specific parts of the ear. This form of acupuncture was created in 1974 by Dr. Michael Smith to facilitate balance of body, mind, and spirit. Now this form of acupuncture is used across the world to alleviate many afflictions including: PTSD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and substance use.

What to expect from an AcuDetox session:

Five sterile acupuncture needles will be placed in each ear. These needles will remain in the ear for 30-45 minutes, during which you will be in a comfortable position and listening to calm music. The five needles are specifically placed to target the following points:

- Shen Men (or Spirit Gate): For calming and relaxing. This point connects the mind, body, and spirit. It has been found to decrease anxiety-related symptoms including insomnia.

- Sympathetic: For relieving tension. This point helps balance the autonomic nervous system and have a calming effect on the digestive system.

- Liver: Used to detoxify the body and emotions. This point helps the metabolic functions of the liver and calms the mood.

- Kidney: Used for strengthening the body. This point helps release fear, access the body's wisdom, and reduce anxiety.

- Lung: Used to help open respiration. This point helps regulate respiration, body temperature, and reduces apathy.

There may be slight discomfort at the time of needle insertion, but this passes quickly. Occasionally, light-headedness may occur; however, this is normal. There may be some bleeding at the time of needle removal.
